There was one film from last year that I didn’t make a single effort to see and that was All About Steve. But surely I am not the only person who now wants to give it a go following Sandra Bullock’s Oscar winning acceptance speech at the Razzies on Saturday night. It would be kismet indeed if Sandra were to win the Oscar tonight as well. For a different film. But there’s a good chance now that I will do what Sandra urges and watch this stalking romcom ‘with my eyes’.
As for the other Razzies, it is a bit rich, as Sandra Bullock admonished, that she and Bradley Cooper should also win the Razzie for worst couple when ‘couple’ is stretching their relationship quite a bit. Actually, a lot.
No arguments with worst picture (Transformers did not do at all well at the Razzies – or, rather, it did too well) but huge problems with Worst Prequel, Remake, Rip-off or Sequel being Land of the Lost! Can’t these people recognise a witty, colourful, vibrant, hysterical, cheesy, rich, well-acted spoof when it falls out of the timewarp and hits them over the head like an ice cream van? The chilling out scene in the pool is one of my favourite moments from any film for quite a while, as is the volcano model scene, the gnat on the back, the dino pee, the lizard people feet, British Anna Friel’s terrible fake British accent and Will Ferrell’s shorts. Am I the only person hoping for a sequel? C’mon Brad Silberling – give me more Land of the Lost!
